Ingredients
  

  • 2 slices bread (sourdough, whole grain, or brioche)
  • 1 tbsp butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or pepper jack)
  • 1 slice ham (optional)
  • 2 slices avocado or tomato (optional)
  • Pinch of salt and pepper

Instructions
 

  • Butter one side of each bread slice.
  • Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Place one bread slice butter-side down, then layer cheese and add-ins (egg, avocado, etc.). Top with the second bread slice, butter-side up.
  • Cook for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and cheese melts. Press lightly with a spatula.
  • Slice and serve immediately!

Notes

For extra crispiness, spread mayo instead of butter on the bread. Customize with pesto, jalapeños, or apple slices!
